Obituary

On Friday, May 31, 2019, Robert Doleman, age 75, passed away at Agrace Hospice surrounded by the laughter, tears, and voices of his loving family.

Robert was born on August 12, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas, to James and Darnell Doleman. At 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Madison, Wisconsin, beginning what would eventually become a storied and decorated career in the Wisconsin Air National Guard. He achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in the 115th Fighter Wing at Truax Field and spent one weekend a month in the Reserves for his entire career. The best thing about finding himself stationed in Madison was that this was the home of a beautiful young woman named Rita Van Haren, whose charms he could not resist and they married in 1963. Bob and Rita raised five children together; daughters Colleen, Lea, Kristin, Valerie and a son, Eric.

He retired from the Air National Guard at age 55 and enjoyed golfing with his best buddy Ray, playing “Dirty Clubs” with the Van Harens, taking care of his yard, and most of all, spending time with his wife, Rita. They loved evenings together listening to music, dancing, and going out with friends. Bob and Rita traveled extensively, including visits to the Doleman family in Texas and the Fontenot relatives in Louisiana. They also enjoyed memorable trips to Europe and the Caribbean.

The most important thing to Robert was family. Having five children, four son-in-laws, and nine adored grandchildren created many treasured memories. It was also his single biggest source of pride. Everyone who knew him will miss his infectious laugh and his mischievous ways. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Bob’s sister, Annice Richardson, and close friends Ray Ruby and Sue Kaminski for their love, support and friendship throughout the years.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Rita, his brother James, his mother Darnell, and his father James. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Colleen (Kevin Reilly) of Madison, Lea (Todd Culliton) of Black Earth, Kristin (Rob Charles) of Green Bay, Valerie (Nate Demuth) of Hudson, son Eric of Madison; grandchildren Connor, Brady, Bobby, McKenna, Amanda, Sara, Maria, Dane and Vaughn.

A memorial service with military honors will be held in the chapel at Roselawn Memorial Park at 401 Femrite Drive, Monona WI, 53716 at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2019, with a celebration of life to follow at the Doleman residence, 3771 Robin Hood Way, Madison, WI 53718 at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in the name of Robert Doleman may be made to Agrace Hospice. 5395 E Cheryl Pkwy, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
