Obituary

William Jeffrey Leanderts

September 12, 1976 – February 10, 2019
Beloved by his parents Mary Ellen (nee Grube) and Jeffrey B Leanderts, sister Mary Catherine (Jose) Merchan and their daughter Maeve Ellen, brother Paul (Michelle) Churchill and their children, Catherine, Paul, Daniel and Michael.

Bill will forever be a treasured son, brother, uncle and friend – leaving us all more patient, kind and enlightened for having been touched by his life. He was a relentless defender of everything he felt was right. A firm believer in labor unions and activism, Bill literally devoted his life to being an advocate for those whom others might otherwise pass over. He loved politics (only the good guys), his family, children, all things yellow and explaining everything to anyone who cared to listen. Bill passed away suddenly after a short illness and chose the gift of organ donation. His soft heart shall never be matched. He was a true treasure who walked this earth among us.

In his honor, please spread an act of kindness and plant some yellow flowers… so that through us he may continue his work of making this world a more tolerant, beautiful place.

A Celebration of Life ceremony is planned for a future date.

“If a man die, shall he live again?” asked the man Job long ago.(Job 14:14,15)  Perhaps you, too, have wondered about this. How would you feel if you knew that a reunion with your loved ones was possible right here on earth under the best of conditions?

Well, the Bible makes the promise: “Your dead ones will live. . . . They will rise up.” And the Bible also says: “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it.”—Isaiah 26:19; Psalm 37:29.

He was my neighbor. He was one of the kindest men I ever met. I will miss his sparkling blue eyes.

I have known Bill since high school and only went looking for him when he stopped returning my texts. I am shocked and saddened by his loss. He was always a genuinely friendly and positive person and his presence will be sorely missed.

I'm stunned--I didn't find out about Bill's passing until today. He was a great representative for me when I was dealing with hostile management at my workplace. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that, without his guidance, I would have been out of work. The labor movement certainly needs more like him. RIP Bill.

Bill was a Labor friend who was selfless, always yearning to help others. When ever there was an opportunity to catch up with Bill at a Delegates meeting, Labor with a Bite, the COPE Bean Feed, or volunteering during an election, one could tell he was genuinely kind, good-natured, and whole heartedly committed. He was always upbeat, positive, energetic; just full of life. His dedication to justice and the union movement was unmatched. I appreciate the time I spent with him. My condolences to his family, friends, union sisters & brothers, and loved ones. In your honor, we continue our fight for the living.
