Doris Bumpers, affectionately known as “Big Momma”, was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 8, 1928 to the proud parents of Gordon House & Lucille Johnson. Doris had many siblings, a twin sister, Dolores, eldest brother Wilbur McClinton, brother Gordon House Jr, and sister Juanita Morgon, who all have preceded her in death. She later married Claude Julius Bumpers and through this union they had two daughters; Claudell Dawkins of Madison, Wi, & Carolyn Montgomery (who have also preceded her in death).

Doris accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She attended Burk Elementary School and graduated from DuSable High School. In 1969, Doris worked as a Program Representative I for the City of Chicago Urban Opportunity Department. She was very talented and worked various jobs. Her interests included music, dancing, sewing, knitting and crochet. She enjoyed helping others and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Doris departed this life on January 9, 2019. She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving daughter, Claudell Dawkins of Madison, Wi; two devoted nieces, Ednita Dotson of Chicago, Ill. and Lorna Taylor of Clarksville TN; best friend Jenrine Anderson of Chicago, Ill; 6 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 25 plus great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
