Life Story for
Jesse D. Green passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born on November 2, 1937 to the late Oliver Green and the late Susana Green in Coatopa, Alabama. He was the third son of nine siblings. He grew up in a Christian household and professed Christ for himself.
Jesse was a smart, friendly, and outgoing man. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama and he completed a B.S. in Chemistry in 1962 at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked for more than 30 years as a chemist and researcher for the USDA Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin. During his tenure with the USDA Forest Products Laboratory he helped author several publications and presented his research at scientific meetings in various locations including Montreal, Canada. Post-retirement he worked as a home healthcare worker for Community Home Health from 2002 to 2007. Post-retirement he also kept busy with various part-time employment opportunities.
Throughout his life he pursued many interests. He was an avid reader and enjoyed scientific journals and reading the Bible. Sports was another passion of his and in his younger years he was on the Dunbar High School football team, played tennis, and was on the Forest Products Laboratory softball team. He mentored young people and touched many lives.
Jesse is survived by two daughters, Andora and Aileen, from his previous marriage to Oles Green. He is preceded in death by his sister June, brother Joe and sister Leola. The memories of his life will be cherished by his siblings Alfred, William, Thomas, Oliver and Olevia. Jesse will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and family friends. Kathryn Griffin, his longtime partner and caregiver will also cherish his memory and celebrate his life.
